    Default Check Engine/Thermostat

    Hey everyone,
so around 2 weeks ago, my 04 mazda 3's check engine light came on. I used my friend's code reader and it gave me p0128 coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature. Just 2 days ago, the light turned off. I already bought a new thermostat from Mazda but i'm not sure if I should return or not. The car takes around 7-9 minutes to fully warm up when its around 13 degrees.

    Thank you

Replace it. You have the part and IIRC I believe someone said something about the old version of thermostats being a crappy design.

As peter said. replace it. its going to stick again, mine did that. i can assure you that you will be able to tell its ****ed when winter comes. my car was fine until it got to below 0. then it would take forever to warm up

just a note that you will lose antifreeze when replacing it so have some with you if its your only car.

I've never changed mine. Although I probably should. They are pretty cheap so if your mechanic is fair why not.

I called street performance and he gave me $160 for the thermostat and the belts. So I'll probably change both while im at it.

You should ask Jimmy if he wants you to bring your own coolant because he may recommend replacing it.

I replaced my thermostat about a month and a half ago...getting a jug of coolant is a must because lots will come out of the hoses once you disconnect them. Might as well do a full flush while you're at it too.

Buy two. The reason why I say this is because one barely reached the minimum fill line. Over the next couple days after the flush the fluid level may go down so it would be wise to have extra coolant laying around just in case. Hope this helps.

PS - make sure you stick to the same colour coolant as is already in your coolant system

@oraor Hey. I just spoke to Jimmy about your issue while I was there. He said to buy the gold concentrated FL22 coolant at the dealership. You only need one because it's concentrated. This will save you a bit. He'll mix it for you and no charge for the water. Lol.
