Question MS3 mods too harsh for Gen2 Magnaflow CBE?

So here is a little background of what’s going on. I have a 2010 speed3, purchased a few aftermarket parts and one of them being a Magnaflow Dual Exit CBE system. Bought that around 2 years ago liked everything about it. Until 2 months ago, it started to rattle, and recently squeaking noises (metal to metal) began to join the band at low rev. Contacted the warranty department at Magnaflow, shot a video with my phone and sent it to them. They approved the warranty without a doubt. But there is a catch. The rep says, politely, knowing my car is not in its “Stock” state, the company will only honor the warranty this one time only, no more.

Now, I don’t know enough about the effects of my mod to counter their assumptions. That’s why I want to seek some advices here. Even though they will not honor the life-time warranty after this one, I am not pissed because first, I got a brand new CBE system. Secondly, if the inner welds blows up again, then I guess the muffler really can’t stand my mods and it’s time to move on.

The rep mentioned the following pointers, things that can contribute to the welds popping:

    Higher boost/BT
    Header
    Catless/High Flow Cat
    Upgraded downpipe
    Meth injection/NOS

In general, high exhaust temp/flow caused the welds to pop.

    My feedback after this conversation:

An aftermarket exhaust only bolts onto a stock car, no mods allowed?

Again, I’m satisfied with Magnaflow warranty, just confused...what do you guys think?

I'd fight it, lifetime is lifetime...as long as you own the CBE on your car it should be covered and they can't change the terms of it.

Also you should do damage to things like your downpipe, catalytic converters, O2 sensors, turbo, etc long before any catback fails.

I totally agree with you, I mean thinking about now, there were minor rattlings that came and gone a few times in the past. At first I thought it was just the pipe misaligned somewhere and hitting the heat shield.
I'll probably go for a different brand of cbe if this new one fails again. Just that I never heard of welds popping because of high exhaust temp/flow.

unless they specifically state it to be a "lifetime replacement warranty", they could be well within their rights to limit customers to a single free replacement, after which they'll repair your unit instead....Truly unlimited lifetime replacement warranties are pretty unsustainable for anything other than a solid block of steel....think about the financial liability of replacing something into perpetuity, it's crazy...

I think they only replace, as the rep was telling me they don't repair their system.

Lifetime warranty can be accounted for in the pricing of the product, but there may have been some fine print that they include to protect themselves, so I'm not surprised that they'd only do it once.

What bothers me more is that an aftermarket exhaust that can't handle aftermarket parts. I would def go with another option if this happens again.

Yeah... I questioned him over the phone and he just said the pipe was designed for stock car, I go what?! If the welds ever go again I guess, as you said, will have to move onto something different. The rep suggested to go straight exhaust system, no muffler. I may have to look into CP-e triton with no muffler.

Well the new pipe just went in today, thanks to Jimmy's accommodation in such short notice! We will see how this new one goes, and I will try to get a report from mf investigation after they cut up the muffler.

I have the same exhaust and no issues yet. What other mods do you have?

It's a great exhaust, I just wish it was a tad louder!

To be honest, I think it's just bull... I've talked to a few mechanics, and they all say it's non-sense, it's just bad welds to begin with.
