So here is a little background of what’s going on. I have a 2010 speed3, purchased a few aftermarket parts and one of them being a Magnaflow Dual Exit CBE system. Bought that around 2 years ago liked everything about it. Until 2 months ago, it started to rattle, and recently squeaking noises (metal to metal) began to join the band at low rev. Contacted the warranty department at Magnaflow, shot a video with my phone and sent it to them. They approved the warranty without a doubt. But there is a catch. The rep says, politely, knowing my car is not in its “Stock” state, the company will only honor the warranty this one time only, no more.
Now, I don’t know enough about the effects of my mod to counter their assumptions. That’s why I want to seek some advices here. Even though they will not honor the life-time warranty after this one, I am not pissed because first, I got a brand new CBE system. Secondly, if the inner welds blows up again, then I guess the muffler really can’t stand my mods and it’s time to move on.
The rep mentioned the following pointers, things that can contribute to the welds popping:
Higher boost/BT
Header
Catless/High Flow Cat
Upgraded downpipe
Meth injection/NOS
In general, high exhaust temp/flow caused the welds to pop.
My feedback after this conversation:
An aftermarket exhaust only bolts onto a stock car, no mods allowed?
Again, I’m satisfied with Magnaflow warranty, just confused...what do you guys think?
