06 mazda 3 manual transmission VSS vehicle speed sensor replacement problems

Im am currently trying to replace the speed sensor on my 06 mazda 3 and cant seem to get the old one out I've located it and removed the securing bolt but the thing doesn't want to move!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me on getting it out?? I don't want to break it and be totally screwed!! Has anyone had this problem? Its a standard transmission and no ABS so there is just the one speed sensor on the top of the transaxle under the battery housing, does the front end need to be off the ground for it to release? Please help!!!

Sounds like rust is built up around it. Did you drench it with something like WD40?

Try rotating it back and forth to loosen it up, maybe even a few light taps.

+1. Except use penetrating oil, e.g. PB blaster instead of WD-40. WD-40 wont work any where near as well.

+2. Used PB Blaster for a seized screw on my CPE-Towplate. Powerful stuff. Unfortunately it stripped some paint off my license plate as well.

andrewwick4, I have the same problem. Were you able to get it out yourself eventually? It seems really stuck in even after removing the retaining bolt.

@krugerand, yes i was eventually able to get it out. You may have to put the car up on stands so you can reach it from underneath and tap it with a screwdriver and hammer this should evntually loosen it up.
