Exclamation Re: Rear trailing arm bushing replacement

Hey everyone, I have also rear trailing arm bushings problem and my mazda dealer gave me a ridiculous over 600$ quote. As a student this is an arm and a leg for me. So, would anyone be kind to help me out to direct me to save money and fix this problem that I have? I have a 2007 mazda 3 gx sedan and live in Hamilton. So, if anyone could direct me to someone or some place that will do for cheaper please let me know ASAP because this problem is bothering me very much.

    Thanks

If I may ask, how much did you pay for everything?

Bushings are $30.78 each plus tax. The rest will be labor.

Labout was $60 per side I believe. Either that or $40 per side. Can't remember 100%. Either way it was cheaper than the dealer.

Clunking at the front is most likely your front sway bar bushing

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this came up during a internet search for the exact same symptom: rear axle or control arm bushings mazda3.
I have a 2005 Mazda3 Sedan (GT but doubt this matters) with failing bushings (not the control arm, just the bushing).

The above shot shows the rear bushing (the cylindrical looking thing) popping out of itself, coming apart. That means the tires get pushed out at a weird angle and results in worse tire wear.

I was told by the service guy that the parts were about 40-50 bucks. My Local Lordco quoted me similar prices, so that wasn't the issue. The labour, however, pushed the repair job to $800 CAD + tax, ugh. I was looking for evidence whether this was a reasonable price. It correlates with Gyzmo's earlier post , same price. However, I don't have the garage or tools available to do the work. Anybody know if this type of job can be done more easily at a non-dealer shop?

the job itself is easy, just takes a crap load of time to do as you have to rip apart the suspension on both sides of the car to get the trailing arm off, and put everything back together.

no matter how you cut the cake, it's gonna be an expensive job by any shop

I think I have the same issue. The wife just called and said she heard a clunking sound from the back. Met up with her switched cars. Driving it to Jimmy tonight so he can take a look at it.

This comes at a good time. I just got the tool from europe that allows me to change this bushing on the car without removing the entire arm off the vehicle. Either way though after this bushing is changed you should be getting an alignment.

The dealer at my last service suggested to keep an eye out for noise because they feel my trailer arm bushing also needs to be replaced. I asked specifically if an alignment should be done after. I was told no.

In any event, since I will get someone locally to do the re and re (I will just buy the parts). How many bushings are there and should they be replaced in pairs?

Thanks. Judging from the work involved, it's best to just do one side at a time then.

shop around. I was going to buy the bushing, but for $10 more than the bushings, i got the whole arm with new bushings already pressed.

i had such a hassle getting the arm out. on one side it came out nicely, on the other, the inner metal sleeve of the bushing was basically fused to the bolt. I had to cut through the bushing into chunks because the bolt wouldn't come out . It was a tight spot trying not to cut into the arms as well. I went through many cut off wheels for my dremel
