Hey guys, went to the Britannia x Mavis car meet in Mississauga tonight and met some drivers that highly recommended this forum.
My question is related to a potential engine swap for the 2015 GS (3rd Gen Mazda 3).
Can anyone here predict any foreseeable issues with installing a 2017 Mazda CX-9 crate motor into the 2015 Mazda 3 GS with 200,000km?
Local mazda parts dept. gave me an estimate of $3,500-4000 for a new CX-9 motor, core charge / tax included.
I found a garage on Mavis that does great work with regards to swaps and other tunes.
Their mechanic is uncertain about a possible issue with the ECU / electricals and routing for the exhaust / turbo, however the Skyactiv-G transmission on the CX-9 FWD appears nearly identical to that of the 3.
There's been a lot of talk about this engine's potential for smaller cars like the 6 and 3. I would very much appreciate an input from mechanics / enthusiasts who know more about the Skyactiv drivetrain.
I can't seem to find any useful information related to a potential swap, other than the word of a couple mechanics & this blog from Car&Driver where Mazda was quoted to have confirmed the 2.5L turbo would indeed fit in the Mazda 3. blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-confirms-cx-9s-2-5l-turbo-four-fits-in-other-models
With the next-gen Mazdaspeed3 at least several years away, this is a modification I find pretty compelling.
The 2.5L turbo variant in the CX-9 produces just over 300Ft.lb of torque and 250hp on premium gas
