    Default Carproof Inquiry, Pls Help

    Hi guys,

I've been looking into buyin a used car for a while now, and I've decided on an '04 Mazda 3 GT. I found a beauty at North York Chrysler with 52K on it. Before I put a deposit down, I ran Carproof report. This is what I got:

    http://reports.carproof.net/view_rep...d=C11097A228A1

First of all, it states it's a Mazda 3S, not GT. American? Should I be concerned? Are the only differences that it has traction control and optional side airbags?

Secondly, it shows 1 accident claim as Partial Loss with $0 Magnitude. What does this mean? Could it be an accident that was repaired at third party location, therefore not having the cost info?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks all.

Also want to add that salesman told me there were no accidents when I asked before I ran carproof!

I can't wait until I compare my carproof report to the carproof report they said they would provide me.

Yup, one accident... Doesn't say the magnitude of the accident though.

Do they have the repair papers?

looks like a couple months after the insurance claim, the car was insured under a new policy ....is it a 1 owner car? or was it pawned off after the accident?

From the report it looks as though it's a Canadian car (records indicate never registered in USA). I suspect the 'S' is just a typo.

Still though, the fact that the salesman lied to you turns me off, I'd personally keep looking unless it's a hell of a deal.

I went to the Ministry of Transportation and got a VIN history check and it turns out there has been 4 owners:

    2 lease companies
    1 BMW dealership
+ Current dealership (North York Chrysler Dodge Jeep)

only odometer rating is from the BMW dealership, which shows the current 52K on the car. so north york chrysler got it off them somehow.

im getting the car for $15,150 off the lot. Includes everything, taxes, fees, plates, ownership.

they were askin 14,998. fees were $950 (399 admin fee, 499 inspection fee, 50 gas fee). with taxes, were asking $17,900.

after 2 days of negotiations, got it down to $15,150 all in.

was very close to putting a deposit but I thought i should run a carproof report first. looks like it paid off, but my hopes were already up!

unless he has paperwork regarding the accident, or other solid evidence, im gonna have to walk...

    ...the search continues...

There are lots of others to be had for that price that have not had accidents and with a better history. There's nothing to be disappointed about. That car and salesman sound shady to me.
    I'm glad you walked.

That is NOT a good price for the car. You can definately get the following for the same money:

    Either

    1) same year with fewer kms
    2) same year with no accidents
    3) newer model year car

    Or some combination of above.

It will save you money and aggravation if you take the time to look at as many vehicles as you can..

The right car, the right price, clean history.... it is out there somewhere.
    Damn you photobucket.....
