    My brother has a "grey" market phone which can be updated to the latest firmware. by using jailbreaker he will have a phone that can used to its full potential. From what I understand there is a firmware version(can;t remember which one) that can be updated BUT once done you can not jailbreak it and use it fully.
    I'm on a corp plan thru work and unlikely will be able to upgrade.

    The CSR also told me that this data plan could be added to my "grey" market Iphone, but I would be running EDGE all the time .... which is a little too slow for my liking.

    You guys need to call retentions !!! Telus has some really good deals on right now , and you can use that as leverage to negotiate a new plan.
    I'm currently paying $45 for less stuff than you mentioned even without the data plan. I've been with Rogers for about 5 years now but I also have cable and internet with them.

    My 3 year plan is up in Dec so maybe I should call. Any suggestions with how to get them to give me a good plan? Should I just tell them what I would need/want to get me to stay?

    I don't need much more than I have now plus the data plan. I would be willing to pay $50-60 even, but no more than that.

    No matter which way you look at it, Roger is going to own you. If you want the phone, you'll get it..
    Paying lets say $75/ month for 36 months = 2700 before SAF, taxes and such is just crazy

    I'm definitely not paying anything over $60/mth. I've paid $45-50/mth for the last 3 years so if it's around there or just a little more I will be fine with that.

    This sounds really shitty, but from experience, when you call "to cancel my services" they'll transfer you to a customer care specialist/retention who'll be able to negotiate all your bills together. Otherwise, if you deal with the regular CSR, you'll be stuck in call centre hell...

    It's stupid that Rogers operate this way, but that the only way I've been able to get things done right and proper with them...

    Yup the retention lines are always the best approach to see what they can work out for you or even offer you compared to other phone providers.

    Unless you switch jobs and apply at Rogers you'll be on a free data plan

    Government have opened up the market for 5 new big Telco company's to come into the Canadian market...Verizon and Sprint perhaps will be included which will definetly force them to revise their pricing plans and slash those ludacris charges...system access fee WTF is that? I pay for a plan that is what you should use to maintain the freaking network/equipment!!
