Saikou Michi Oil Catch Cans

Anybody have an opinion on the Saikou Michi oil catch cans? I've been looking around for the "right" one and most of the mazdaspeed, evo, skyline guys seems to think highly of this brand.

Pretty pricey (reg. $95 for their "Stage 2" unit) but when I email Saikou Michi, they said they would let me get in on a current group buy going on for $75 for the Stage 2. Shipping to Canada would be $20 but they were ok with declaring at a lower value to avoid customs (we'll see if that works...not too optimistic). Saikou Stage 2 looks good to me cuz it has a baffle plus it has 5/8 barbs which matches our PCV system.

Yup, that's the price. Still kinda high for a metal can...but I feel more comfortable with a quality product on my car as opposed to the $25 catch cans on ebay (not trying to knock anyone).

I guess $95 usd is a small price to pay for some piece of mind. I'm hoping all the talk of higher octane and better fuel economy due to catch cans is also true (but I'm not hold my breath).

i went with elite engineering,
there was a toss up between this one and elite engineering, saikou took over 2 weeks to get back to me so that i could buy it, after the first week i went with elite engineering.
i really wanted to go with saikou but when they took to long to get back to me i gave up on them.

Saikou was pretty responsive for me. They stuck to their 24 hrs response time which they state on their site. He also answered all my general catch can questions which was cool.

Thats a very nice unit! I looked at that one as well but I wasn't if it was available in 5/8" connections. Being able to screw off the can on the Elite Engineering one and clean the gunk is a nice feature. It also looks like a high quality product...I guess it should be for that price though (same for saikou i hope).

Does anyone happen to know how clean a sealed catch can? I'm guessing it involves flushing it with some type of product but I don't know what.

Hey Storm,

Notice that you have a 35% tint...do you have more pictures of your car somewhere (in good lighting)? I'm interested in a tint...actually I got a 50% tint on friday but they f'd it up (wrinkles, bubbles, and damaged tint everywhere) so I'm making them re-do it.

I may ask to switch to a 35% tint. 50% is not bad for my taste but I'd like to consider 35%..just scared it will be too dark for me.

This CC looks much better than the one I'm currently buying lol. + it already has a baffle and is the color I'd like to paint the one I'm ordering... Any chance I can get in on this BB as well? Sucks that you can't just open this up to empty it out, I guess you have to flush it out... Maybe compressed air? What's the elite one like?

I didn't know you could get 50% tints... I think that's way to light IMO... 35% is a good starting point. I went with 17% charcoal all around.. It takes some getting used to at night. Sometimes I roll my windows down when backing up, just to make sure I don't hit a curb or anything... But that's only when there isn't any street lamps in the area.

I don't suggest anything that dark if you already get bothered by the police.

lol...you guys...we need a MS3 meet so our CC discussions don't turn into a general tint talk...but, I've got something in the 20% and it's just dark enough for me...my tinter "did not allow" me to get anything darker...

I'd like a Saikou can too, but sourcing them wasn't easy (guess I should've chk'd the Subaru/EVO boards to see if they have a GB going)...if someone will throw a GB together, I may grab one too but $95 USD shipped for something I can't see even if I open my hood is pricey for me...

The Megan one cj and I are getting is a GReddy rip off...it doesn't have the screen or baffling material, but that can be easily taken cared of @ the Home Depot...

I just looked at that HOWTO and man, it looks like a huge pain in the ass! To top it off, the original poster never went back and photoshoped the hose like he promised

go to home depot and get some plumbing adaptors (i converted mine into 5/8" inlet)
will post pictures of it (when i find my plumbing tape)

You need a 1/4" to 1/2" bushing, 1/2 to 1/2 coupler, and 1/2 male threaded to 5/8" barbed brass fittings...I have no clue where to get these. The typical auto/hardware store doesn't have this stuff. Was hoping to find it in the plumbing section of home depot but no luck.

No worries about thread jacking...I kinda did it to myself - started with OCC's then asked storm about his tint, LOL.

...they have universal type fuel lines as a recommended accessory at the bottom of the page which makes me think its ok to use. Not sure we need to get the crazy expensive type hose.

home depot has the connectors, give me some time and i'll post what i did with the connectors,

That'd be great. My only other option is to buy from a site i found https://www.rittenhouse.ca which will cost me $20 for the 3 fittings i need...which is kinda high for just 3 brass fittings.

Elite engineering catch can




first the pcv valve


parts you are going to need is the pcv valve (mine is the napa one)

5/8” barb x 1/2” MIP
1/2” FIP x 1/4" FIP
pcv valve

Now for the adaptor (converting the inlets on the OCC to 5/8" barb)

5/8” Barb x 1/2” MIP
1/2” FIP x 1/4” FIP
1/4” FIP x 1/4” MIP 90 degree elbow
1/4” MIP x 1/8” FIP
1/8” MIP x close

you are going to need 2 of each if you want both inlets the same
There is probably an easier way to do this but i don't care .

If it wasn't home depot, can you specify exactly where you got it? They don't seem to have 5/8 stuff anywhere. Only carry 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 inch fittings from what i can find.

don't see 5/8" fuel lines so we may be out of luck on this type.

i heard that these guy carry high pressure fuel lines, don't know if they have the 5/8" i can't go to check them out cuz i'm not in mississauga
