Thumbs up Catch can's on speed 3...

Hey guys, I installed an catch can 2 weeks ago. Tonight I had to take it out to put my intake back on and noticed something was in there as well that my clear tube popped out so I had to fix as I was leaking oil from the OCC.

Anyways after making a mess (should of drained it first) here's what I got:

Not much some may say. 2 weeks is not very long.

I did the install with the additional PCV valve. Ask Gizzmo_jr, the install made me feel like a little girl the stock PCV valve is tight in behind the intake manifold. I burned my arm (this car never cools down) and used all the swear words in the french dictionary.

I would recommend this as a NEED for the speed3.

I've been considering this mod. Anyone inquired at their dealership about this voiding the warranty?

2 weeks and you got that much?!

I went on for over 2 months and got about the same...with a lot of purposeful driving in between...and even a couple of oil changes.

EDIT: did you let the crud settle? did it settle into layers? When I poured mine out, I did NOT notice any water like the MSF guys did...but I also didn't let it sit in a cup overnight to see...

yeah it popped and was leaking out.

Yes FObio, 2 weeks only. Letting it settle as we speak. I think it's mostly oil but could see some very small layers last night. The glass would be full if i didn't spill it on my driveway.

anyways there maybe more water later when meth gets installed.

Mat, we can put new vinyl tube on instead. Like 50c from CT. The stuff on there might be to old and died out.

Make sure the catch can has some type of vent/Crankcase Breather Filter on it.

Hey Rick...that's some good performance oriented advice! HOWEVER, if you vent your crankcase with a filter, you will violate, I believe envionmental protection laws...if you don't pass the sniff test by the cops if you ever get pulled over, I believe it's a $600+ ticket.

Obviously not an issue for track-only cars...

BTW, I'm running the Megan Racing catch can from Rick@gargae16. it's the same design as the Greddy one I believe mleblond is running.

not for the speed's, venting was not recommended from what I gather of the pcv system used. most cars just have the one line going to it vs this system needs to go back into the intake manifold. i guess you may T in a filter but havent seen any speeds with them.

Yes your right on the filter but....just where the filter goes, just run a black line all the way onto the floor....almost like it looks like a stock hose this way cops cant really tell

Yes megan catch cans are SAME design as greddy and alot less in price

    yep same.

I can run a GB on the greddy ones and see what kind of price I can get.

there's a how to make a OCC somewhere for like 12$. They all do the same in the end IMO.

So a quick checklist for the install would be

    1. oil catch can
    2. new oem pcv valve (as per part # listed in other threads)
    3. hosing??

    and that's it?
now that everyone has it installed is there a specific and "confirmed" dimensions for the hosing tubes required?

or is it completely dependant on the catch can you buy..

5/8" ID (internal diameter) vacuum resistant hose. I still have some available that's sutiable for install with the MSF write-up. The way Jimmy did it is very different and the goal was to allow ME access to the CC without jacking the car up...it's basically sitting right under my cone filter. This way, it takes more hose lonegth and requires a special DOUBLE layer hose going from the CC back to the intake.

5/8" is because that's what the intake width is and by making all other connectors 5/8", you can run the same hose throughout...

    1) would you have enough available to do another install similar to yours (as setup by jimmy)

    2) when you say "making all other connectors 5/8, does that require any adaptations/adators?

    thanks for that info.

well I know other models that replace the PCV with a open fitting and then a hose to it and then into a catch can

But you can run a PCV valve as well and will be just as fine

I don't disagree with you on that. My first choice would've been the Cobb recommended location...I'll leave it at that.
