oh you're one of those special people completely oblivious to their surroundings hmm?
If it was that crowded in the subway, it would be courteous to take off your backpack otherwise don't be too surprised in being treated in the same manner.

Your problem is you see me getting mad because someone didn't hold open a door. That is not it, its the common courtesy factor that I eluded to about the muggings, attacks, hit pedestrians, etc that comes from the lack of caring about anyone else. If you cared about other peoples well being in life you would go out of your way to do the simple things like holding open doors.

When that 15 year old girl in Cali was being gang raped, was it so hard for one of the MANY witnesses to call the police? Should you have told her "sorry, was it so hard for you to call the police yourself?" Again, its not the act of not holding doors that made me "fly off the handle", its the lack of care for human life that made me upset.

Hopefully you see the point.....if not that is cool, there are always going to be people that contribute to society, and well.......

haha are you kidding me? that is completly irrelivant. i said you shouldn't get so mad over the little things and you start comparing it to some girl getting rapped, i wouldn't consider that a little thing.
just because somone doensn't hold a door open for you that means they have no care for human life? thats rediculous. contributing to society includes not flipping out every time somone crosses your path.

Rob, I disagree... I think people should return the favor at all opportunities. If I didn't see a person was behind me when I walked through the door without holding it for them, I'll even go as far as apologizing...

Again, it doesn't piss me off or anything, but it IS common courtesy, and I think we should all practice it at all times.

Toronto isn't as bad as it is in a lot of other cities around the world. There are still plenty of people who take the courtesy to hold the door for others etc. Sometimes, like all the time (maybe because media made our society think this way), one or two negative occurances make you only think of the negative. The positive occurances are often overlooked. I've never seen someone put a thread on here thanking someone for holding the door for them lol

But, TTC is pretty shit. Thats why I take the GO Train to work and never would consider TTC unless I am forced to.

I beg to differ a bit on the bolded part - I've moved out of TO, to Ajax, and I do have to say, generally in public areas, say a store/Timmy's etc, people are, I find, more polite. They do hold the doors open, say "have a nice day", thank you and such. But then again, we all speak from our experiences...

That being said, the one difference I noticed is in my neighbourhood - in so much as everyone is nice, but personal agendas run a lot higher, everyone (myself included) gets home from work and gets into their house and closed doors - not as much friendly talking over the fence or 'watching' out for one another sincerely (I personally feel that the only reason my neighbours watch my house is to see what I'm up to - and in friendly discussions, it's been confirmed).

I think perhaps one of the primary drivers to this (and commented by others) is we are too busy - whether it's work/hobbies/etc - the combination makes for this rush rush rush/keeping up with the Jones/etc attitude, which in the end starts to wear at you and in the end, you end up effectively being rude and only think of yourself.

    Just my thoughts/rant...

It wasnt that crowded...thats the point. Nice try though...I'm probably too courteous compared to most people to be honest.

Also, I don't think most people would be stupid enough to do what he did cause thats like Steve Nash picking a fight with Shaq....it doesnt make sense but again, thats not the point....point is, an accidental bump due to the train rocking back and forth does not warrant him to push back.

Again....I thought I was clear when I said it wasn't the "not holding doors" thing that got me upset, it was the lack of care for other people. Bringing up the Cali story was 100% relavent in that people just don't care about others and is the reason why nobody helped out that poor girl. So no, i'm not kidding you, care a little more about people and you wouldn't sound like a 'wad.

For the record....YES YES YES not holding doors for people means they have no care for other people. If you think only calling for help when someone is dying next to you means you're a good person you're messed up.....it starts with the little things......

The #1 problem I have with holding doors.

I will walk through, hold it for my g/f and I will hold it for other people comming through if they're close. But when there is a shitload of other people after us, they treat you/me as a doorman and just keep rushing through. If they were decent they would hold the door for the next person after them. A door holding rotation.

Also no one waves a thank you anymore when you let them into traffic. I gave up and stopped letting people in.
