Post Fram Sure Drain Vs. Fumoto

I've seen both of these oil drain plug replacements that are supposed to make draining your oil quicker and with less mess.

The first one is the Fram Sure Drain: http://www.jegs.com/p/Fram-Autolite/...50898/10002/-1

and the second one is the Fumoto Drain Valve: http://www.ezoildrain.com/

Is anyone using either of these? if so...can you give a quick review/experience using them?
after browsing the web, it seems 50/50 as to which one is better.

    Thanks.

well it looks like it's decreasing the inner diameter of the drainage hole... so it won't be making the oil drain faster.

For those interested in changing their own oil. This valve appears to make draining your oil quicker because you don't have to struggle with tools and bolts. Instead, you just turn the lever to the release position to drain the oil. You can even attach a hose to this valve to drain the oil directly into a waste container. I'm seriously considering this but it seems not a lot of people have this valve so it's hard to gauge reliability.

not if you put a large zip lock bag around it and take it off. all the overflow will be in the bag.

wonder which one would last longer. i'm interested in the fram design. i've seen these, but never really paid attention to 'em.

what he is saying is that there is no point in having these valves installed because the oil change will become messy when taking the oil filter off.

I believe the valve simply makes the job easier. Naturally, any work one does on their car is dirty/messy. Does anyone see the benefits/drawbacks of these "valves in the long run especially for do-it-yourself oil changing?"

As for the oil filter, I like the Ziploc bag idea.

I personally like the idea of the Fram Sure Drain because I can directly pour the old oil in an empty oil jug, use the ziplock method for the oil filter.

Looks like you can do the same with the Fumoto. Might be able to buy it here: http://www.qwikvalve.com/home.php

Fumoto... after awhile I think a lot of crap will get stuck where the release pin is. There is nothing covering it, unlike the Fram, where you screw on a brass dust cover.

I think both are effective designs. I must admit that my interest in these valves is centered on the Miata. Only the Fumoto valve works with it and judging by user reviews on another forum, it has been very reliable. Nonetheless, these valves are ideal for the do-it-yourself population.

I agree, my interest was peaked as well when i saw that with the 'sure drain' you don't have to remove the drain plug every time, you can control where the oil goes (ie into an empty jug instead of into a pail, then into a jug), plus you don't risk cross threading the drain. Just wondering why they don't seem that popular since many people do change their own oil.
