MazdaSpeed 3 Accessory Exhaust question

I have the accessory exhaust and the resonator rattles and welds are going around it, if I delete the resonator and go straight pipe is it going to be extreamly loud? And is it going to sound ricer? And if I get another resonator which one should I get I don't want the exhaust to sound like there is a hole in it. Please let me know guys i couldn't find any info about it.

IMO it will be quite loud with a straight pipe, as the exhaust is already loud enough with the resonator on. As for getting a replacement resonator, the Vibrant Ultra Quiet one is quite popular. However, it might make the exhaust too quiet. It's all up to what you want your car to sound like.

It's hard to say. I would actually say a lot of it is also the muffler.

Are you sure the welds are going on the resonator, or do you mean around the muffler?

since MazdaSpeed accessory exhausts don't have a muffler and Ive been under the car its the resonator welds and its creating a rattle with the pipes hitting the inside of the resonator since they do go in a bit and are welded further down on the pipe.

A-yup. Constant, steady, unchanging tone that matches the resonant frequency of the car itself which effectively amplifies the sound. The purpose of the resonator is largely to shift the frequencies to ones that don't resonate with the car.

I'm pretty sure that it's a round straight through muffler, not a resonator; tomato, potato, it's all the same. The accessory exhaust is 2.25 i.d.

Mazdaspeed 3 exhaust? Or Mazdaspeed Accessory exhaust? Two totally different things.

MS3 = 3 inch
MS acc = 2.25

Bringing this zombie thread back to life --

For those that have replaced their mufflers with a magnaflow one, what size did you guys pick up? I know the piping is 2.25", but do I get the 6" round or the 7" round?

I've put off the replacement for as long as I can. The intermittent rattles are annoying me.

I just found that donutz used this one, but will this fit in the area where the current mazdaspeed acc. muffler is? IIRC, it's pretty tight (haha!). Is there a difference between the oval and round one besides size?

It fits but it's really tight. Whoever welds it in place will need to ensure it is perfectly straigh. Mine thumped against the heat shield for a couple of months. It finally stopped after the heat shield got dented from the muffler.

If you are worried about fit, yes a round one fits in with more room for inaccurate welding. What is your goal though? For me I was looking for something to absorb as much sound as possible and make the tone as deep as possible while providing minimal impact to airflow (straight through design). So I went with the largest muffler I could wedge in the oem location.

I want a deeper tone/maintain my current sound but I'd like it to fit well. If I was welding this bad boy myself I would probably go with the oval for more sound absorption but I'm not... I'm going to measure tomorrow to see if the 7" round will clear (height).
