Default Keyless entry on a Mazda3 GX / Experience at Gyro

I know of someone who just bought a '08 Mazda3 at a dealership here in Toronto. His knowledge of cars in general is below average and this was his first ever vehicle purchase. I believe that these blood-sucking vampires smelt this and the whole experience was horrible ordeal for him. Among the most malicious examples was an offer was to extend the warranty by 2 years for $2600!!

More to the point, the purchase agreement stated that they would have keyless entry installed. However he discovered that they don't work for the back doors. The dealership said that the 08 Mazda3 GX model has only "one keyless entry kit and that it only has 2 actuators in it." So they concluded that they can't ever get keyless entry on this car.

I find it to hard to believe, but I'm not familiar with this trim either. Can anyone verify this?

    Thanks in advance.

This isn't true. Actuators can be installed for all doors. This can be done on ANY car. I would either fight to have them install the other ones or to go somewhere that actually knows what they are doing and pay for them. They might just have to eat the cost though.

A lawsuit over 2 door actuators won't even be worth your time.

Second thought here. Doesn't the car already have power door locks? If so, no actuators are required, which means that if the fronts work, the rears "should" be working also. If not they have done something wrong.

Thanks for the replies. To answer your question, no the car did not have any power locks. The agreement was to install keyless entry, one would think they would be for all the doors?!

Hey peterm15, yes my first suggestion was for him to press the unlock button twice as my Mazda3 works in that manner. But as mentioned in my post, he had the discussion with the dealer afterwards at which point they said that it can't be done.

actually... this is a bit more tricky then we thought as well. in a mazda 3 with no power door locks, the cost to install keyless entry is expensive to say the least.. best i remember because you have to purchase OEM power door locks, the reason why aftermarket actuators or power door lock kits could not be installed into the rear doors is because they are too large for the door skin and will cut through it over time. the only way around this is to go OEM ( we went through 4 suppliers as everyone said they could complete this task) due to price this option has become less popular and more customers are opting for the mazda 3 with power door locks from factory. however, interesting note on the mazda 3s with out power door locks there is two key holes on each front door. when we completed our mazda 3 with OEM power door lock actuators, the passenger side key lock would no longer work as vehicles equipt with OEM power locks only have a key entry on the driverside.

Regardless of the fact. When they made the agreement to put auto locks did the dealer specify that they would only do the font doors? If not then they BETTER add the rear actuators. Take it to the GM of the dealership if the front line sales person /service persons arent willing to fix the issue. If I get a 4 door vehicle and the salesman tells me they will add power locks you are assuming it will be ALL the doors.

I say fight it to the end and go as high as you need to go! But thats just me, Im stubborn and dont back down when a point needs to be proven.

They didn't specify all the doors only that keyless would be added, one would assume all the doors.

They will look to get this issue resolved and hold them accountable to the agreement. Curious though, if you take your car in for a tire change at Gyro, would they only change the front tires? lol!

First gen GX's have no front or rear actuators. The second gen's do.

That is why they made the agreement to ADD keyless entry. There are numerous aftermarket actuators that can be added. I added keyless entry on my Dodge Ram last yr when I had the truck. The truck did NOT have power locks previously.

Obviously if they were able to make the agreement and install the actuators on the front doors they can certainly do the back.

Vinnierap have you read my previous post? The aftermarket actuators do not fit it HAS to be OEM or nothing in the rear but if they find a supplier who can install aftermarket in the rear send them my way because no one I know can fit them, the fronts are no problem as there is ample space but the rears are too tight of a fit to install the aftermarket actuators. the customer who I had installed the keyless in her 2011 GX didnt care if it opened all 4 doors or not. she only wanted the drivers door to be keyless but after going through so many suppliers and speaking with the customer we ended up installing all 4 power actuators. actually flipdaddy the 2nd gens do not all come with front or rear actuators (I have had 2 customers with 2010 and 2011 Mazda 3 GX's) that did not have the power actuators but it may be VIN specific or I got the only 2 cars that didnt come with them and then the customers that purchased them wanted keyless to challenge me and keep the day interesting. However we went through 4 suppliers to come to that conclusion. but I dont think GYRO will have any reason not to help you and make sure you are satisfied 100% but as Vinnierap put it there was an assumption, buying a car, buying a house. never assume anything. I am confident this will get resolved and you will end up very satisfied with your purchase

my apologies, if the aftermarket dont fit I must have missed that part. But it should be resolved by getting the oem installed.
