    Smile Foglight Wiring

    I have 2006 Mazda 3 in Sand Mica recently bought it used. I wanted to install Fog Lights, i cant find a dealer in the Brampton/Mississauga area anyone know one ? and secondly I popped the hood and looked towards where the foglights would go, there is a red and black wire going to to the light area ? what does this mean ? i checked inside the car there is no switch for it in the car.

    Fog lights should just be plug and play. You shouldn't need to wire them up. Although you will need to buy the oem fog stalk. ( 100 ish bucks. )

    What trim do u have?
    Gx or Gs?
    If you have a GS, then it's prewired for fogs and you have these options;
    Option 1;
    Buy the fog kit from the dealer (comes with signal/headlight/fog switch, foglight housing complete, bulbs, and instructions for install) retail...... U ready for this?......$ 353 + the rapeST errrr sorry I mean the HST. So ur lookin at approx $ 400
    Option 2;
    By an aftermarket kit from Rick @ garage16, a TM3 sponsor here
    Comes with aftermarket foglight housings, bulbs, wires, dash mounted push button switch and instructions. Can't quotte u a price (that's Rick's dept) but it will most likely be in the 250 ish range.

    If you have a GX, then your only option is #2, since the gx's do not come pre-wired far as I know...
    Hope this helps

    all cars are prewired for fog lights that way the dealers can sell a simple retrofit kit. I would contact Joe at MoT and see what what kind of pricing he can get you on the kit. If you dont want to go that route you can go the slightly cheaper way and contact peter at next mod and get a retro kit from them. However this kit will not have an oem light switch. If the dealer is to expensive for instal you could simply attempt it yourself depending on how you dare yourself to do it or contact me through pm for pricing on instal. all the best of luck to you

    Hey Dan,
    Your probably right since you've got more experience on auto electrics than I'll EVER have. All I'm saying is when I was getting a quote for fogs when I had my 07 mazda 3, I was also quoting a fit for the stock signal/head/fog switch, I asked the parts guy if a signal switch and fogs will be plug n play. The guy asked for my vin, ran the numbers, and said "yes they will fit", so it would seem that the sure way to make sure if your car is prewired would be to run the vin on car. Now mind you, the parts guy could have off base with his answer and YES, maybe all cars ARE pre-wired. But I think running a vin # is the 100% way to verify, without hauling the bumper off of course

    Staying on topic more or less, how bout anyone with a GX trim in the 04-06 range like the original OP has......have any of you dropped your bumper when doing the hid thing, and noticed if your cars had foglight prewire? Since the OP has not done this yet, he can't tell for sure if the wires are there or not.

    Evey bumper I have pulled off so far has been prewired for it in some way. The 07-09 needed an extra harness from the fog to the cars connector but it was a short connector. My 05 was a GX and it was prewired I retrofitted oem fogs prior to kits being available. Even the 2010s are prewired. Heck my 05 was prewired for power windows which I also installed after the fact. Also my parts were all oem.

    Ahhh now THAT I didn't know. Then to original OP "now you know you still can go the option #1 way... But as you will see, the oem hookup (which i would go, but I just like stock look), will cost more.... As I mentioned earlier, in the $350- $ 400 range.

    Thanx Dan

    It has nothing to do with the vin. Parts people are morons, they always ask for the vin because they don't know how to do anything without a vin. Joe at MoT is the only parts guy who doesn't need a vin, because he's not an incompetent moron.

    Lets not forget that when you pay a lil more, you get better quality..ie, Garage16 fogs are glass lenses...next mod is not...hence the price. Think its too much? Then buy the less expensive ones from nextmod. but be careful what type of lights your gonna run in there. If your just planning on led fogs, then you have nothing to worry about right?

    ya I'm beginning to think that's true. Dan said he's hauled off bumpers of all types of trim and they all had prewire. Asking for the vin.... ya come to think of it, they always ask that before they even answer your question.

    Yeah, I called up the dodge dealership on woodbine because I wanted to buy a set of those cup holder rings from the caliber, and the guy said he needed a vin. I said "I don't own a caliber, I don't have a friggin vin, I don't care which ones you give me, just sell me a frigging set of the illuminated rings"
    And the moron said he couldn't without a vin.

    They ask for the VIN because there *are* a lot of differences between model years and model versions. E.g. the brake rotor size.

    Its all about the wording of how you tell them what you want. Use funky words like retrofit or adding on because then they can generally magically look stuff up without a vin

    You are right but when someone calls telling they want to modify something they generally know how to find what it is you are looking for.
