    Default warranty question

Hey guys, just a quick question. My tweeters in my '12 sky seem to be shit, or just crapping out, aswell as my passenger door speaker. The car is no older then 3months old and im going in for an oil change today.. Are the speakers replaced under warranty? i would think they would be, but thats why im asking. Also, after a drive on the weekend, the car feels like it has less power overall, what could be the causes? im gunna talk to them about it today once im there.

    Thanks in advace

I would think the speakers would be covered but they probably have to be really obviously poor sound quality for the dealer to replace them.

As far as the less power thing goes, it's really hard to say especially if there's no check engine light. You might just have to wait that one out a bit to see if the problem develops more. Unless its something really obvious but it almost never is.

Thanks a lot man. I know the AC robs power from reading threads but even with the windows down it feels slow. I'll inquire tonight and report back. Of anybody else has comments feel free to mention them.

Are you driving with your/your two front windows down only? That'll create a slipstream of air that gets caught in the backseat and cause drag. Try it with the a/c off and the windows closed, preferably on a highway onramp, and test the acceleration (without killing yourself).

As for the speakers, if they crackle or disconnect during playback, they should be replaced. Try and play a higher frequency, more bass intense song (skrillex?) with the bass and treble on 3 or 4 when you're showing them the issue.

Thanks guys, I usually listen to rap/hip hop an dubstep in the car, and I think that's what caused it. I went to the dealership, and their ordering me a new one! Guelph Mazda treats me good, except for the fact they want $500 to wrap the roof in CF

Any labour service will cost through the roof at Mazda. Look for a sponsor and if they're not in the area just look for a smaller shop that has done it before.

Since its under warranty, the install on the speakers should be free, correct? And yeah, no dice on $500 to wrap a roof. I could probably figure it out and do it for way less.

Definitely no charge for them to install the new speakers. All parts and labour are free within an approved warranty claim (3yr/80k "bumper to bumper"). Only sometimes will you have to pay for a "diagnosis" of the issue. Usually this only happens if they find something wrong but it turns out not to be covered under warranty.

I've installed speakers under warranty for Mazda before. There is absolutely no charge to the customer at all. The dealerships make little money from warranty and the techs. get shafted on labour.

Oh they get paid for warranty work, they just can't charge out as many labour hours as they otherwise would if it wasn't a warranty claim.

Technicians will charge 3 hours to do a job that only takes them say 2.1 hours. Thus, making more money and there's really nothing the customer can do about that. When technicians are more experienced and can do jobs faster they can make even more money this way. In some sense this is fair as its like they are getting paid more for their additional experience.

In the case of the warranty, Mazda calls the shots and will only pay as much as they know it actually takes. On occasion, I've seen situations where the manufacturer does pay less than the job takes in reality, which does suck for the tech but they make up for it on all the non warranty jobs.
